Our Process
Contact us. Because every circuit court, district court, and municipal court in the Kansas City area utilizes different procedures (including their applicable fines, court costs, and other issues), we need to obtain additional information about your specific criminal charge, DUI, traffic or speeding ticket. You can provide us this information via our Free Estimate Form, via email, or by calling our office at (816) 229-2708.
Discuss your case. Our criminal and traffic lawyers will then discuss with you or will contact you back regarding your case. For many criminal and DUI cases, we will provide you information regarding: (1) the specific charges against you; (2) an overview of the process of examining and addressing your criminal charge; and (3) the amount of our attorney fees; and (4) further information and the process of addressing your criminal charge. Depending on the severity of the charge, we may request that you come to our office for an in-person consultation. For simple traffic and speeding tickets, we can give you a quote for: (1) our attorney fee; and (2) our estimate of the price for amending or obtaining a diversion regarding your speeding or traffic ticket(s). The fine amounts, court costs, and attorney fees vary based on the individual jurisdiction, the severity of the charge, your driving record, and various other factors.
Payment. Once we agree on representation, we have a variety of payment options. You can pay via credit card (either over the phone or using our credit card payment link) or cash (in person only). For most speeding tickets, we request that you make an up front payment of our attorney fee and the estimated costs of the fine amount and court costs, and we will then make pay to the court on your behalf once your ticket has been amended without you ever needing to appear in court (in most cases). For many criminal and DUI cases, we are agreeable to allowing payment plans.
We Represent You. Our office will then confirm our engagement regarding your case, and will provide you with a receipt for your payment to our office. Our representation of you will depend on the type of case. Further information on our specific representation for criminal, DUI, and traffic & speeding tickets can be found on the following pages.

A skilled criminal attorney can also minimize the severe penalties associated with a conviction.

Without fail, getting arrested or convicted of DUI/DWI is a traumatic experience that will upset your life. You are here because you need a DUI/DWI lawyer in the Kansas City area. The penalties for a conviction are severe. You may face steep fines, a suspension of your license or even jail time. If you are convicted of a DUI/DWI charge, the conviction will typically remain on your record forever. Investigation of your background will reveal the conviction to all interested employers.
Even if you decide not to take your case to trial, it is important to have an experienced DUI attorney to review your case, file appropriate motions, and negotiate the best possible plea deal. Don’t fight the prosecutor’s office alone.
It is possible, in some cases, to reduce the DUI/DWI charge to a different offense that carries fewer penalties. At times, much of the evidence in your case can be challenged by a skilled lawyer. A skilled DUI/DWI attorney may minimize the severe penalties associated with a conviction. Sometimes the defense can even get a case dismissed if the driver’s constitutional rights were violated during the arrest. It is appropriate to question the qualifications and judgment of officers who administered field sobriety tests, and Breathalyzer tests may not be reliable. Other times, plea bargaining may be the best strategy for getting DUI/DWI charges reduced or dismissed.

Missouri Speeding Ticket Lawyer
In most Missouri courts, we can work with the prosecutor to reach an agreement to amend your charge from speeding to a nonmoving violation such as a “defective equipment,” “illegal parking,” or another type charge that does not result in points against your driving record or have the other serious negative consequences associated with a speeding conviction. As part of a typical plea agreement, there is typically an increase to the original fine amount listed on the ticket (some have fee schedules, while others use the general rule of thumb of “doubling” the fine listed on the ticket). The amount of the increased fine depends on the specific jurisdiction, the speed you were going, your driving record, and other factors.

In Kansas, the typical process is slightly different. While some cities and municipalities allow a plea/modification process similar to that in Missouri, other jurisdictions allow for a diversion agreement. Under a diversion agreement, an initial application is made, and if approved, the driver must agree to abide by certain restrictions for a prescribed period of time in order to have the speeding ticket amended to a nonmoving violation. This diversion process is becoming more and more prevalent and has similar costs to “amending” a ticket.
